In addition to formulas that create the underlying fractal structure and those that apply shapes to that base, I can apply a third type of formula to each layer that distorts or transforms the original structure into other shapes. Quaesta, which is Latin for "to seek, ask" began as a typical spiral demonstrating a masking technique in my fractal course. I then applied a series of four additional transformational formulas to 10 of the image's 19 layers to create this effect. To me, the figure in the image appears to be reaching, searching; on a quest.
